How it works

Selling your car to webuyanycar in four steps

The process is designed to take the hassle out of selling: no adverts, no strangers test driving your car, and no haggling over the phone.

  1. 1

    Value your car online

Enter your reg, mileage and a few details. The valuation is free and guaranteed for 4 days.

  2. 2

    Book an appointment

Choose a branch, date and time that suits you. There are more than 500 across the UK.

  3. 3

    Inspection and offer

A short inspection and test drive, usually under half an hour, then you get a final offer.

  4. 4

    Get paid

Accept and you're paid by bank transfer. They handle the DVLA paperwork and can settle finance.

webuyanycar charges a transaction fee, which is shown with your valuation. The final offer can differ from the online valuation if the car's condition, mileage or history is different from what you entered.

How to sell your car for the best price

Whichever route you choose, a little preparation makes a real difference to what you're offered. Buyers price in risk: anything that looks unknown or neglected gets deducted from the offer.

1. Know your car's history

Look at the full MOT history before anyone else does. Repeated advisories for the same part, or a mileage reading that looks wrong, will come up at an inspection. It's better to have the explanation ready, or to fix the issue first.

2. Gather the paperwork

Have the V5C logbook, service history, receipts for recent work and every key ready. A complete service record and a second key both help the price. Our guide to the documents you need to sell a car has a full checklist.

3. Fix the cheap things

Replace blown bulbs, top up fluids, and clean the car inside and out. Small fixes cost little but stop a buyer knocking money off for them. Bigger jobs, like a new clutch, rarely add as much value as they cost.

4. Be accurate about condition

When you value your car online, enter the mileage and condition honestly. An optimistic description gets you a higher online figure, but the final offer after inspection is what you'll actually be paid.

5. Settle the finance and MOT questions early

If there's finance on the car, ask your lender for a settlement figure before you sell; see selling a car with outstanding finance. If the MOT is close to running out, a fresh MOT can make the car easier to sell. If it's already failed, read selling a car without an MOT.

Selling your car: common questions

How quickly can I sell my car?

With a car buying service such as webuyanycar you can value your car online in minutes, book an appointment, often within days, and sell at the appointment. Payment is by bank transfer. A private sale usually takes longer because you need to advertise, answer enquiries and arrange viewings.

Will I get the price from the online valuation?

The online valuation is based on the details you enter. At the appointment the car is inspected and test driven, and the final offer can be lower if the condition, mileage or history differs from what you declared. There's no obligation to sell.

Can I sell my car if it still has finance on it?

Yes, but the finance must be settled as part of the sale, because the lender owns a car on HP or PCP until it's paid off. webuyanycar can settle outstanding finance for you if you bring an in-date settlement letter from your lender.

Can I sell a car without an MOT?

Yes. It's legal to sell a car without a valid MOT, although it can't be driven on the road except to a pre-booked test or repairs, and a missing or short MOT usually lowers the price.

Do I need to tell DVLA I've sold my car?

Yes, the registered keeper must tell DVLA. When you sell to a motor trader or car buying service they can do it with your consent, but you stay responsible until DVLA is told. Any full months of tax left are refunded automatically.
